Observation Narrative
Plot occurs in a fairly rich, but somewhat dry, protected boulder slope. Rocks are unknown, but light colored and potentially calcareous. Herb layer is not dense, but fairly high in species. Tree canopy is large and diverse with large Q. rubra and Q. falcata. Medium sized Liriodendron tulipifera, Juglans nigra, and Carya sp. Boulder field is fairly extensive and not just limited to the draw although most diversity is located there. Ginseng in plot.
Directions: Take Gibson Gap Trail out of the campground. Follow trail as it climbs steeply. At the first "summit" there will be an old trail on the left (on 1953 topo as Woodson Trail). Go up Woodson Trail 0.46 mi. to a boulderfield area. Plot is NE of trail about 400 ft. Tagged tree is a Quercus falcata of 80cm dbh with tag #180. Conduit is at a bearing of 170 degrees and 10m from the tree.
